BICSI IN251: Applied Fiber Splicing

This course is a hands-on and practical training program designed to address the growing skill gap in the field of fiber splicing. In today's rapidly advancing telecommunications landscape, the demand for skilled professionals proficient in splicing fiber optic cables is higher than ever. This course aims to equip participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to excel in the industry. Single fiber and ribbon fiber will be utilized in this class, giving students the opportunity to learn to use the tools and techniques for each type of fiber.

IN251 Course Information

  • Why Should I Attend?

    This course is the first step towards becoming a proficient and sought-after fiber optic professional. 

    In this course, you will learn essential information as an installer, including: 

    • Splicing techniques for single-strand fiber and ribbon fiber
    • How to use advanced splicing equipment
    • Safety practices and procedures 

     

    You will also gain an advantage over other installers by getting hands-on practice in: 

    • Splicing of different types of cable 
    • Splicing ISP (Inside Plant) and OSP (Outside Plant) cables accurately 
    • Performing cable installation in trays and enclosures 
  • Who Should Attend?

    This program is ideal for: 

    • Individuals with little or no fiber experience. 
    • Anyone wishing to pursue a career in ICT cabling distribution. 
    • Individuals seeking hands-on skills in cabling installation. 
  • What Are the Knowledge and Skills Requirements?

    Participants must be able to: 

    • Distinguish between different colors 
    • Possess manual dexterity to complete fine motor tasks 
    • Stand for extended periods of time (e.g., 30 minutes) 
    • Lift and carry items weighing ≈22.7 kg (50 pounds)

  • What Are the Prerequisites and Preparation Required?

    Little or no experience is needed to attend this class. Some students may benefit from completing the IN101: Installer 1 training course prior to attending; however, this is not a requirement. 
  • What Course Materials Are Required?

    Personal or prescription safety glasses and work gloves are recommended. 
  • Can I Earn Credit?

    Yes, you can earn 14 continuing education credits (CECs) toward an existing BICSI credential certification requirement upon successfully completing this program. 
  • What Is the Attendance Policy?

    Participation in all originally scheduled program days is mandatory to receive the certificate of completion and 14 CECs. 

    Participants who fulfill the attendance requirement will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the program. 

  • How Long Is This Course?

    This class takes place over two full days. Both theoretical and practical components are covered. This is not an examination preparation course.
